Scott Joerger, on , said:

Fastback had some nice surprises on the boys side as well. The merged scores:

1 Great Oak 59

2 Glendora 187

3 Poly (Long Beach) 223

4 Westlake 226

5 Rubidoux 236

I don't know if there's an official 5 man team time record for this course, but Great Oak's 49:55 has got to be close. Has any team averaged under 10:00 before? And their 6-7 were within spitting distance as well. Great Oak is in it to win it this year on the boys side as well, and I'm very interesting in seeing what they do next week.

Like their girls, Glendora boys made a statement as well, notching the #2 team honors for the day and raising a few eyebrows in the process. Glendora - consider yourselves out from under the radar!

Caleb Webb of Big Bear took top honors for individual boys with a very solid 9:39 and has to be considered among the favorites for the D4 boys state title hunt.

Did I mention that Great Oak and Glendora accounted for 5 of the top 10 marks on the day?

Hi Scott,

We have gone to Fastback the past 5 years and the course has pretty much remained the same, obviously the biggest changing factor is weather. This can push time up or down depending on early morning temps.

The fastest we have ever run on this course for girls is 58:58 in 2010 (we went on to win state), which I believe was the course record until Simi Valley broke it this year.

The fastest our boys have ever run on this course for is 49:35 in 2011 (we went on to finish 4th at state), but I believe a year or two earlier that Rancho Cucamonga ran a little faster as a team and holds the record but I'm not sure what it is exactly.

See you up at Woodbridge. :)
"857878":
Fastback had some nice surprises on the boys side as well.
For teams, the merged scores were:

1 Simi Valley 53

2 Great Oak 57

3 Glendora 178

4 Rancho Cucamonga 272

5 Edison (Hb) 277

First these were 2 mile grade level races, so I hate to say who "won" since these teams weren't necessarily setting up for a win, but you can't help compare!

Simi is on top in these results, but the surprising thing is by how little, considering Great Oak was without their preseason 2-3-4-5 in helbig, Dorris, Calain, and Larsen. But this just shows the depth of Great Oak! Glendora girls were also a nice surprise with a tight pack of girls between 12:20 and 12:40.

Individually, Sarah Baxter showed she's the queen of the trails once again, blowing away her course record by 17 seconds in 10:43. Caroline Pietrzyk of Malibu had another standout performance after her sub 17 run at Seaside last week, leading 10 more girls under 12 minutes.
